At Tommy Smith Elementary School, we are fully committed to providing robust transition support to military families. Our school has a notable enrollment team, which includes the Registrar, Guidance Counselor, and Administrative staff. This team works tirelessly to ensure that the transition process for military students and their families is as seamless as possible.

Principal Debra Spradley, who serves as the Military Point of Contact, is readily available to assist military families with any questions or concerns. We carefully review the cumulative folders of new military-connected children to ensure we’re providing a seamless transition of both academics and other related services.

Tommy Smith Elementary School places a strong emphasis on patriotism, which is woven into the foundation of every school project and initiative. We proudly cultivate a sense of community and patriotism, and this commitment remains unwavering. We believe in nurturing and encouraging student leaders and we place a high priority on bringing in guest speakers, including active-duty and military leaders to share inspirational stories with our student body.

Student-Led Transition Team:

Our Safety Patrol students are trained to take the lead as campus mentors and they play a significant role in guiding and supporting military children. They are vital members of the student-led transition team and are recognized for embracing their roles with pride and responsibility.

Support for Military ESE Children:

Our commitment to inclusive education is unwavering. We ensure that the unique needs of military children with exceptional requirements are met. We offer Self-Contained, Resource, and Inclusion settings, as well as Speech & Language services, Social Skills groups, and ESE counseling to provide comprehensive support for every student.

Military Recognition Events:

Tommy Smith Elementary School actively participates in a variety of military recognition events, including the celebration of Purple Up Day, Veterans Day, and other special ceremonies. These events honor and pay tribute to our military community, fostering a deep sense of respect and gratitude.

Access to Mental Health Services:

We understand the importance of mental health support for military children. Our school offers comprehensive mental health services through our dedicated on-campus mental health team. We maintain a strong connection to the district mental health team for additional support, ensuring that the well-being of our military students is a top priority.
